bio
Phase Transition formed in 2018 in Porto, Portugal. The trio is composed of Sofia Beco on violin and vocals, Luís Dias on guitar, and Fernando Maia on drums.
From the start, the band embraced a daring hybrid approach: weaving classical nuance into complex progressive metal frameworks. Their sound reflects the diverse musical backgrounds of its members, fusing sweeping violin lines, virtuosic guitar work, and intricate rhythms.
Their journey began at university, where they rehearsed Dream Theater covers between exams. Even in those early days, their ambition was clear. In 2020 they self-released their debut EP, Relatively Speaking. Since then, they have performed at respected venues such as HardClub in Porto and festivals including Comendatio Music Fest, steadily building a reputation on the Iberian progressive-metal scene.
A major milestone came in 2025 with the self-release of their first full-length album, In Search of Being. The record was born out of long-distance collaboration, with songwriting stretching back to 2023. Production, mixing, and mastering were completed with the help of producer Daniel Cardoso, known for his work with Anathema. The lead single, Becoming, (R)evolution, showcases the band’s ambition — melodic yet forceful, marked by soaring violin and guitar solos. The album has already drawn positive attention from prog and metal press alike.
Now, Phase Transition stand at a pivotal moment. 2025 promises to be a year of new music, new performances, and new artistic growth. To stay connected with their evolution, sign up for their mailing list for updates and exclusive content.
